Weekly Profiles — the Week’s Repeatable Scripts
Weeks follow templates — most famously the bullish week that puts in its low on Tuesday.
Measured against the weekly open, weeks tend to follow repeatable profiles. The classic bullish expansion forms its low of the week Monday-Tuesday (often in Tuesday’s London session) below the weekly open, then expands higher into Thursday/Friday.
Other templates include the Wednesday midweek reversal, the consolidation week that breaks on Thursday’s news, and the dreaded seek-and-destroy week that whipsaws both sides without trending.
The profile is a hypothesis that updates as the week unfolds — a Tuesday dip below the weekly open that gets reclaimed is evidence for the classic expansion, not a reason to panic-sell.
How to trade it
- Track price against the weekly open and ask which profile the week is writing.
- In a bullish week hypothesis, treat the Monday-Tuesday dip below the weekly open as the buy window rather than the breakdown.
Pitfalls
- Buying the Monday high because the week "should" be bullish — the discount usually comes first.
- Forcing a profile onto a news-dominated or holiday week where no clean template applies.
